Did you know?

  • If the pilot light flame of your gas burner is yellow it means your gas isn’t burning properly and it’s time to service your gas appliance. This situation indicates a possible blocked flu that could be a fire hazard and also make you sick.
  • Bayonet style gas stop valves are now illegal.
  • New homes must install gas hot water systems, solar hot water systems or hot water systems with a heat pump - not electric hot water systems.

Tips

  • Fix your gas cooker to a wall or floor to prevent tipping.
  • Don’t store flammable liquids near the base of your gas hot water heater.
  • Turn your gas appliances off at the main when painting your house to prevent unpleasant smells. Oil based paints and thinners can create smells that cause problems for those with asthma or nasal sensitivity.
  • If your gas hot water heater is in the laundry, make sure you clean lint away from the burner and controls.
